A veteran newsstand dealer is learning more and more that it’s good to have New York’s mayor in your corner.
City lawyers backed off Wednesday on their push to evict Jerry Delakas, 64, upon learning that Mayor de Blasio was sympathetic to Delakas’ plight, the newsstand man’s lawyer said.
Attorney Arthur Schwartz said city lawyers agreed to a two-week adjournment in Manhattan Supreme Court after hearing the mayor’s press office issued a statement saying, “We are working to reach a better outcome.”
The mayor told Delakas at a Gracie Mansion reception Sunday that the eviction effort was “a great injustice,” the vendor’s friend Kelly King said.
