A Note From Arthur Schwartz: As May drew to a close, a senior was on my corner, (12th Street and 6th) every morning handing out flyers for locals to call their Assembly Member Deborah Glick. The woman was with Food and Water Watch, which has become one of the most effective organizations pushing to pass climate-saving legislation in Albany. Here is the message on the website.

Assemblymember Glick defended leaving the NY HEAT Act out of the state budget, claiming it should be passed in session — now we need her to fight for it! Group will rally outside Assemblymember’s office to demand she prioritize the bill to help NYers save on their energy bills, curb future rate hikes, and fight climate change.
The good news: the Senate passed the NY HEAT Act ( A4592-B / S2016-B). But the bill is stalled in the Assembly, though a majority of its members are co-sponsors. We need Glick to call on Speaker Heastie to vote on and pass NY HEAT Act!
As Chair of the Assembly Environment Committee, Glick needs to champion this important climate legislation, which would cut energy bills while moving New York off fracked gas. We’ll be in Glick’s district, urging her to be a climate leader and fight to pass the NY HEAT Act in the waning weeks of the legislative session.
The NY HEAT Act will save families from rising energy costs by limiting household utility bills to 6% of a family’s income. The Senate passed the full bill twice, and a majority of Assembly Members support the bill, but Speaker Heastie and Governor Hochul are NOT doing enough to get this done. We need lawmakers to fight and pressure Albany leadership to get the NY HEAT Act passed before the end of the session!
Send a message to Assemblymember Deborah Glick: Pass the NY HEAT Act.
